From the Heart The Miracle of Facebook

The Miracle of Facebook

I started a Facebook account some years back as I was invited by a friend (who resides in Beijing) to view his latest photos online. Last few months, being curious, I went to check out the faces of my alma mater in the Alumni group. Sigh! Most of them are unfamiliar names but only one that struck my thoughts as her name is rather special. I decided to introduce myself and added her.

And so happen after that, I saw a very familiar name 'Mary' commenting on her photo. I couldn't help but quickly sending a message (in Facabook) to Mary. Guess how long I have never seen Mary? For almost two decades!!! Since we left the boarding school, we did keep in touch via snail mails at the beginning. There was no email back then. Soon everybody was busy for preparing for their pre-U studies, going to college/uni then getting their first job, getting married and up to muddling with kids.
An endless desert road captured in Arizona
As soon as Mary recognized who am I, she asked for my number and immediately got me on the phone on 13 February. I guess the feeling when I talked to Mary was so wonderful, as if I won 100 millions lotto! I have been looking for her and Jane for quite some time and God had answered my prayers. Three of us were in same dormitory for 5 years.  Needless to say, all of us had to abide to the same strict time table and dress code! How could we forget the maroon skirts for outing or official function, dark blue skirts for prep class at night and long pathetic black track bottom with white collared t-shirts for evening games! Lights off at 11 pm and everybody must put on the darn mosquito net. Warden would perform the rounds every morning and that was the time when we need to ensure our fingers nail was kept short. We had the same dishes at dining halls, bathed at same 'pool' and used the same shoes polisher (the brand was Kiwi, by the way!). One day of each weekend, either Saturday or Sunday would be the girl's outing day. This was the time we sneaked back to Jane's house which happened to be in the same town of our boarding school.

Hey, nothing is greater than have this little thoughts! I miss them so much! I was so lucky to have them around.

Honestly speaking, I have almost give up hope that we can get in touch. Guess this is the effect of synergy, when the feeling is mutual, things just happen the way we want it to be. Where is the will, there is a way.

Mary is still the same old Mary. She was in touch with some of our friends and soon I was reconnected with the whole bunch. Oh gosh, they were searching high and low for me. I was even being googled! Folks, thanks for all the effort.

We finally fixed a date (7 March) to meet up in person last weekend. There was a mixed feeling, both excited and anxious. Excited to talk about the good old days and anxious on how they look like today, what are they doing, what happened since we left school etc. I guess that weekend was the days we talked, talked and just talked even with those we hardly exchanged conversation in school but deep in my heart, somehow they appears to be so closed. Yes, all of us has a common trademark as we were produced by a same factory!

We turned out to be in good hands. No matter what hardship we had gone through, all of us are a bunch of matured independence folks! Thank God. Personally, I am truly glad that everybody is living their life to the fullest. The key is, we hold no regrets and always be looking forward.

All this happen in less than a month, just with a few clicks on Facebook! It has never came across my mind how much wonders Facebook could offer.
