Encompassed an area of 1,826 acre of nature preserve on the east of Joe Pool Lake, this park features 10-lane boat ramps giving access to the water. Tonnes of picnic tables ranging from shade shelter or open outdoor are provided within the park, majority overlooking the scenic view of Joe Pool Lake. More than 300 campsites are developed in the wood, with basic facilities such as water, electricity, rest room and hot shower. If you are interested for primitive camping, there easily 30 sites to choose from.

Cedar Hill State (Texas) Park - Home to birds
Sunset landscape of Joe Pool Lake
With the lake and water, a special feature of Cedar Hill State is birdwatching, boating and fishing! Birdwatching is a popular activity year round, and Cedar Hill State Park also serves as home to neotropical birds during the migratory season like Yellow-billed cuckoo and Indigo Bunting. Joe Pool Marina is usually the spot that attracts boating and fishing. The convenience store there sells baiting, fishing gear and some food.
Plenty of picnic tables
We arrived in the evening on last Christmas day before dusk. The weather was between 30 to 40 degrees Fahrenheit, as a result we did not explore much on foot, instead relying on our vehicles to steer us within the park compound.
Day turns into night
Pristine lake
Joe Pool Marina
Our destination started from southern end, where we made a stop near Urban Fish & Wildlife Office to catch the shorelines of Joe Pool Lake. At the same time, looking north one could spot some lights of the metroplex of Grand Prairie. Then, we travel back on Spine Road, passing several campsites and Penn Farm Agricultural History Center and reached Joe Pool Marina to catch the sight of sunset reflecting on Joe Pool Lake and some lights on the opposite land. Indeed a beautiful moment!
