Fishing town and bustling waterfront
Started as a bustling port city in 19th century at the outlet of Danshui River, Danshui (淡水鎮) or sometimes written as Tamsui is a popular destination to watch sunset in Taipei County! Located north of the Formosa island, Danshui is conveniently reached by metropolitan folks via MRT (Danshui/Red Line) in less than 40 minutes.
Rustic charm of Danshui MRT Station
Popular among day trippers and weekenders
Boasting many historical attractions such as Hongmao Castle (Fort San Domingo), Old Street and Fuyou Temple, made Danshui the favorite town among visitors from abroad. Apart from the rustic charm which are spread around the township, Danshui can be enjoyed by many without much effort.

Pier to get boat ride to Bali - the land across the river
Rental bikes are allowed on the boat
Right behind the Danshui MRT Station, there is an esplanade of miles long. Appealing with a dedicated walkway, it also houses cafes, restaurants and gift/game shops. A few spots on waterfront are occupied by ferry piers, whereby one can take a boat ride to Bali or Fisherman's Wharf.
Guangyinshan is the highest peak across
Danshui waterfront attracts huge crowd from all walks of life. Favored by family with children as this place offers a safe ground to walk, run, fly kites or even bike. Good place for chatting and strolling among youngsters and the same time, it is a romantic spot for dating couples to catch beautiful sunset. Elderly folks enjoy sitting on the bench while fanning by the sea breeze. Avid anglers are indulged with their catch and barely notice the passer-bys.
Beautiful sunset attracts many visitors to stay late
The night is always young at Danshui!
Most of the time, the atmosphere is filled with free live music especially in the evening or weekends. From my observation, this spot seems to provide a platform for the home grown artists to showcase and market their talent. Caricaturists or painters can be spotted here as well.

In short, Danshui waterfront is a good place to rejuvenate and recharge!
