Jinshan (金山) or literally translated as 'Gold Mountain' is popularly known for its scenic cape, beautiful beaches and appealing hot springs. With the blend of geographical advantage and a well developed traffic network, Jinshan is a town that connects to Shimen and Danshui in the northern-west, leads to Wanli and Keelung southward and heads to Yangmingshan on southern-west. Due to its proximity to Jinbaoshan (Chin Pao Shan) private cemetery, Jinshan also draws many tourists to visit the memorial garden (tomb) of the famous Taiwanese pop vocalist - the late Teresa Teng (鄧麗君).

Little that visitors know about Jinshan Old Street or officially called as Jinbaoli Street. Hidden parallel behind
the main road (Zhongshan Road) of Jinshan Township, Jinbaoli Street the oldest street in Jinshan, possessing the history of 200 years old. Recommended by a friendly local in Yehliu for the ancient market charm and duck meat noodle, we decided to explore this rural market street of Jinshan after visiting Yehliu. It is best to visit in the morning.

One long narrow lane, occupied by street vendors and stands that spilled out from shops, Jinbaoli is a pedestrian street with enormous local produce like sweet potato, taro and bamboo shoot. Solid cubes that are stacked on some stalls are honey candy which are sold by weight. Faces the East China Sea, this place is also the home to abundance fresh seafood. A variety of dried marine produce are packed for grab and many street food vendors offer grilled seafood, sausages and meats.






Continuing until the end of Jinbaoli Street (where it meets Minsheng Road), there is a majestic Chinese temple right at the corner. It is the Cihu Temple or fondly known as Jinshan Mazu (Goddess of the sea) Temple. According to folklore, floating images of golden Mazu were discovered in the stone crevice near Yehliu 200 years ago. Many people then set up offerings to the images and their wishes were granted. One day, Mazu appeared in someone's dream, requested to construct a shrine at Jinbaoli Street and this what we see today.
