Buddha Tooth Relic Temple - A different from other Singapore Museums

Wandering in Chinatown is a great thing to do if you ever been to Singapore. There is no better place to be than Chinatown if you are looking for Chinese living heritage and culture in Singapore! And not a surprise you would find one of the best Singapore museums here. Perhaps to many of us, Chinatown is similar everywhere in world, but Buddha Tooth Relic Temple and Museum in Chinatown Singapore is certainly something special. It deserves more than a peek!

Stands proudly at 288 South Bridge Road, Buddha Tooth Relic Temple is also classified under Singapore Museums (that you certainly agree after visiting Level 3), boosting the architecture of Tang Dynasty and Buddhist Mandala designs in a five-story tower. A sacred place for Buddhist worshipers, this little gem welcomes everyone, to visit, to learn about Buddhism/Buddhist culture, to snap photographs or just to cool off in this hot Lion City (the whole building is air-conditioned except the roof-top park)!

Buddhist Cultural Amongst Singapore Museums

If you happen to visit by incidental like us, believe me it must be the architecture that strikes your eyes to admire and your mind to wonder what kind of treasures are stored inside this rustic-looking tower. The tower may look ancient but the age is far less than its outlook. Completed in 2007, mysterious was the adjective that led us walking into the building to explore. Coming from Chinatown Complex end, we arrived from behind, so the statue of Avalokiteshvara was first spotted. Unlike a typical Buddhist temple, the decorations here is impressive and artistic. Right behind this well-organized hall is a another stunning hall or better known as Hundreds of Dragon Hall. This main hall is where a 27-foot golden Maitreya Buddha is enshrined on the altar.

If you are coming here for one of the great Singapore Museums, to learn more about Buddhism and Buddhist culture, then head on straight to the Buddhist Culture Museum on Level 3. Tonnes of Buddhist literature in English are accessible and certainly get you preoccupied and stay for hours.

To be at Buddha Tooth Relic Temple as the name suggests, it certainly rewards you the chance to witness the relic. The Buddha Shakyamuni's teeth is showcased for public viewing at Level 4. And three last things that you should not leave this remarkable Singapore museums without seeing through your eyes are the enormous Tibetan prayer wheel, 10,000 Buddhas Pagoda and a well-manicured orchid garden - all reside at the roof top!
