Dotting the island, hawker food is one of the must try if you ever been to Singapore. Established from the street food variety, hawker food features the history and stories behind the eating culture in Singapore. If you are wary to sample the hawker food from the locals' favorite, then head on to food courts that reside in the shopping malls.

Food Republic is one of the decent places to try Singaporeans' palate. If you ever step into Food Republic in Vivo City Mall, you would feel as if you have stepped back into time. Precisely, it brings one into an old Chinese town street lit up with red lanterns where food is prepared right in front of you as you order.

Located at Level 3 opposite Sentosa Express station at Vivo City Mall, Food Republic stages the local flavors from Curry, Nasi Lemak, Chicken Rice, Roasted Duck, Fried Prawn Noodle, Laksa, Spare ribs Noodles, Beef Noodles, toasted bread to a variety of buns and confectionery. Aside from the hawker food, their setting also offers diners with restaurant option such as dimsum in the food court, of course only their food is allowed within the premise.

Most of the food looks appealing and two growling tummies ended up with Fried Prawn Noodle, Nasi Lemak (Coconut Milk Rice) and Beef Noodle. Beverages are aplenty in choice. From hot, cold to room temperature and fruit/vegetable juices to coffee or tea in addition to the popular desserts such as cendol and ice kacang.

If I were to review on what we had at Food Republic recently, they scored above average for flavors and ingredients despite authenticity has perhaps been compromised. Economical too compares to restaurants, but not as low as the price at non air-conditioned food courts in Chinatown or suburbs.

Food Republic also serves as a resident food court at Suntech City Mall. Yes, as you'd have guessed we did not miss that food center as well. I guess we're hooked with this tag!

How to get there?
Vivo City Mall - Hop on MRT to Harbour Front - purple line
Suntech City Mall - MRT to Esplanade - yellow line

p.s. Good news for parents, wooden high chair for kids are spotted at Food Republic @ Vivo City
