Penang is a food haven. Practically, you may get almost everything you wish to eat here including some of the specialty that probably never thought of getting commercial and available at the local stalls or 'kopitiam' (a local slang for coffee shop).
When I first visited New Cathay Coffee Shop, I was tempted to order for Banana Pancake but the queue was very long and I gave in, reason being this spot is a popular on weekends. On one of week day, I was lucky to be nearby and ordered for a try.
Operated by a young gentleman, this Banana Pancake is like a home cooked pancake. Prepared by frying on a flat pan, the banana pancake is made of flour batter, butter, eggs, raisin and of course the banana slices. Before serving, it is sprinkled with some white sesame seeds.
Depending on how large an order you wish, there are a few prices from RM2.50, RM3.00 and RM3.50 which indicating the amount you may get.
Mmm..guess it is wonderful for a complete meal with carbohydrate mainly from the flour, slight fat from butter, protein from the eggs and vitamin and fibers from banana and sultanas raisins. Great!
Wish to try? New Cathay Coffee Shop is located opposite a church next to Convent Pulau Tikus School at the juncture where Kucing Lane (Lorong Kucing) meets Burma Road (Jalan Burma).
Getting there? New Cathay Coffee Shop Burma Road, Penang Recommendation: 3.7/5 Business hours: Breakfast and Lunch daily except Sunday. Click here for Google Map
