Penang Organic Restaurant
No menu, just set meals or sometimes noodles, cakes and dumplings, these are key features of a quaint organic cafe set up off Jalan Burma. Highly recommended for their organic dumplings, that was the reason leading us to find this little eatery - Reflections. Reflections started as an organic and natural food store and today, it is also known one of Penang Vegan Restaurants in George Town.

Of white facade, tucked away in a quiet and attractive residential street opposite Union Primary School, Reflections is a great place if you're looking for simple, light and healthy meals. We arrived on a Saturday afternoon. Though searching for a parking spot (that doesn't block any entrance of the houses here) can be a little nuisance, luck was on our side. It was merely steps away from Reflections after we stopped.

As we walked into this Penang Vegan Restaurant, it was as like a step into a relative's house in the past. Every structure in this eclectic house is preserved, they look original except the turquoise paint and paintings at which do color the atmosphere. A wooden partition that separates two hall stands in the center, sandwiched by two narrow walkways into kitchen, certainly not a modern interior! Smooth concrete floor, it was painted red. Rattan chairs compliment perfectly the cheerful table clothes, welcoming guests for a healthy meal. They also have a small grocery section in the middle hall.
On that day, we were offered with two choices verbally. First, a set of organic lunch at which was served an appetizer, an entree (main) and a dessert. Second, assam laksa. Wow! We're pretty curious how an organic and vegetarian was going to be, thus we grabbed both.

Penang Hawker Food: Organic Assam LaksaAssam laksa was served almost immediately. The appearance certainly passed as the #1 hawker food in Penang. Attractive and appealing, nobody is going to believe this is an organic vegetarian assam laksa until one slurp of the soup. You'd easily detect the difference, but we like it though. And the bonus, we felt good to empty up the bowl with no guilt!
For the set lunch, it started with a plate of colorful salad. Blending a variety of fresh vegetables including strips of carrot, cabbage, lettuce, mint leave, pineapple and tangy juice either from kumquat or lime, this serving was special. From the first glance, it was perhaps like an English salad but once I tasted, it somehow reminded me of a Peranakan dish! A blend of sweet, savory and tangy. Superb! Main comprised of organic brown rice, tofu, Bok Choy and a bowl of spicy soup. Served in a cocktail glass, red bean soup with lily bulb and dried orange peel made a great dessert to wrap up our lunch.
Reflections is a pleasant stop for an extremely subtle flavors and perhaps to top up your organic groceries. Basic, homely atmosphere and people are very friendly too. Cash only.
