Easy Home Recipes

If you only have less than an hour to prepare a decent meal, this post is one of the easy home recipes dedicated to you. Lately time is always not on my side. Perhaps I want to accomplish many things in a short time or I put too many stuff on my plate. From running errands, meeting deadlines, household chores to taking care of little one,  I love to do everything on my own. Same goes to cooking for my family.
Sweet Sour Chicken - one of the easy home recipes
Living in Penang gives us the luxury of dining out. Inexpensive and options are abundance. Yet sometimes I take the trouble to prepare our own meals to make sure we have 'good' and 'quality' food. With easy home chicken recipes in mind, I combine protein, fiber, vitamins and minerals in a dish making it my version of sweet sour chicken. This dish takes advantage of French beans, carrot and onion. For folks who prefer tomato, green pepper (capsicum) and pineapple, you may swap these with the former vegetables.

Please excuse me for the short cut in this one of easy home recipes. Thanks to Life for over-the- shelf sweet sour sauce. It saves me some time to prepare the sweet sauce from scratch to marinate the chicken.

To promise a good meal in less than an hour (provided you marinate the chicken in advance), steam a cup of rice at the same time, then sit back and enjoy! You deserve it after a day of hard work Smile.

Ingredients for Sweet Sour Chicken
(serves 2-3 people)
300 g breast chicken - cut into bite sizes
10 pieces French beans - cut an inch length
1/2 carrot - cut
1 onion - diced
4-5 cloves garlic - finely chopped
4-5 tbsp sweet sour sauce - from Life
Dashes of salt & pepper
1-2 tsp cooking oil
Sweet Sour Sauce from Life brand
Method:
1. Marinade the chicken with sweet sour sauce, salt and pepper for at least 1 to 2 hours.
2. Heat up cooking oil in a wok. Place garlic and saute till light brown or aromatic.
3. Add onion, carrot and French bean. Stir fry for a couple minutes. Put a little water and simmer until the vegetables are almost cooked.
4. Add chicken and continue to simmer for 10-15 minutes or till chicken is cooked.
5. Great to serve with steamed rice.

Warning!
Marination is an important step to make the chicken tender, juicy and soft. Beware that skipping this step is going to give a bland chicken though every subsequent step in this easy home recipes are followed closely!

How to make Sweet Sour Sauce from scratch?
The traditional Chinese cooking that made sweet sour sauce from scratch combine brown sugar and vinegar. I would perhaps try with tomatoes, honey and lemon juice or apple cider vinegar. How about you? Share your experience if you had ever made it from scratch. We want to learn it from you!
