Fat Mum was the first mentioned by my mom's friend when we called her to ask for any good restaurant to recommend in Butterworth. After getting a simple description on how to get there, 6 of us jumped into 2 cars heading to Raja Uda Road.
If you are coming from Permatang Pauh Road, drive along Raja Uda Road until you see Petronas gas station. Take the left turn at Petronas gas station and Fat Mum Restuarant is just 100 m away from this junction on your left. Fat Mum is on ground floor tucked in-between the three-storey shop block. According to the lady owner, they have been operating since two years ago.
Everybody loves fish so we took the first offer suggested - Assam Curry of Red Snapper. To our surprise, the spices was aromatic! The curry gravy tasted like a mixture of assam laksa and tomyam spices. Everything was in perfect proportion - what a sumptuous dish!
Besides fish, we added another plate of seafood dish - Seaweed Prawn Rolls. The prawn paste was added with someĀ vegetables like carrot and rolled with seaweed. Then, they were deep-fried and cut into thin slices. They really look appealing!
Beijing Spare Ribs came next in our order. The pork ribs was very soft and we liked it as there was no fatty strips. I guess the pork was stewed in pickled tofu and hence giving a bit of sweet taste. Not too bad!
Enough with the protein, we opted for some fibers with stir-fried vegetables - kailan and spinach.

One of the unique dining experience here is the wall near where we sat was hanged with some jokes and lovely or humorous quotes. If you read Mandarin and recite one after another, you do not feel the time is ticking! I was entertained and hope you too! Address: Fat Mum Seafood House No 11A, Lorong Ceri 5, Raja Uda Road, 12300 Butterworth, Penang, Malaysia Tel: +60-12-4466023, +60-16-4569298 (Madelin Khoo) Recommendation: 3.7/5 Location: Click here - Courtesy of Google Map
